ANSWER

The solution is (2,1)

EXPLANATION

The given equations are:

2x+4y=8...(1)

3x-5y=1...(2)

We make x the subject in the first equation to get:

2x=8-4y

This means that,

x=4-2y...(3)

Put equation (3) into equation (2)

3(4-2y)-5y=1

Expand:

12-6y-5y=1

-6y-5y=1-12

-11y=-11

y=1

Put y=1 into equation (3).

x=4-2(1)=2

The solution is (2,1)
